What is a Java Testing Framework?

The Java Testing Framework is a set of guidelines to follow when creating Java test scripts for quality assurance. Throughout the testing cycle, these guidelines or rules are used to define tests and strategies. It not only provides a structured blueprint for the testing process, but it also provides an efficient strategy for testing the software. Test Data Information, Scripting Guidelines, Test Results, and Repositories are some guidelines that may be included in a Java testing framework.

Here is the list of top Java Testing Frameworks

Selenium

Selenium is an open-source umbrella project that includes several tools and libraries designed to support browser automation. It provides a readable tool for creating functional tests in most modern web browsers without having to learn a scripting testing language.

It creates test scripts written in Java, Python, etc to write automation tests for web applications. Selenium comes with Selenium WebDriver, Selenium IDE and Selenium Grid to create powerful automated tests in different browsers.

JUnit

JUnit is an open-source foundation of testing frameworks, the goal is to create an up-to-date foundation for developer-side testing on the JVM. JUnit is a unit testing framework for Java programming language. JUnit has been important in the development of test-driven development and is one of a family of unit testing frameworks collectively known as xUnit, that originated with JUnit.

TestNG

TestNG is a testing framework for the Java programming language created by Cédric Beust and inspired by JUnit and NUnit. The design goal of TestNG is to cover a wider range of test categories: unit, functional, end-to-end, integration, etc., with more powerful and easy-to-use functionalities.

SerenityBDD

Serenity BDD is a simple but powerful way to get into automated acceptance testing. Serenity BDD provides powerful living documentation and test reporting that gives meaningful feedback to testers, business folks, and the team as a whole. Serenity tells you not only what tests have been executed, but more importantly, what requirements have been tested. Serenity supports both UI and API testing, and integrates seamlessly with standard industry tools such as Selenium 4 and RestAssured.

Mockito

Mockito is a mocking framework, a JAVA-based library used for efficient unit testing of JAVA applications. Mockito is used to mock interfaces to add sample functionality to the sample interface used in unit testing. It allows you to write beautiful tests with a clean and simple API.
